~Emma~

Chapter 1

“Hello! I am here!” Said eleven year old Emma Mandela as her voice echoed across the marble floor.
“I said I’m here!”
“Oh, there you Emily,” Said a rather plump lady, “I’m Molly Watkins, but just call me Molly.”
She grabbed Emma’s bags, “I’ve been working for your aunt for three months now and I’m so vary pleased to meet you now. She told me so much about you!”
“Um, my name’s Emma not Emily.”
“Oh, of course it is!” Molly said cheerfully, “Come on, Your Aunt Mallory is waiting for you in the Feast Hall and I’m sure you are starving from that seven hour plane ride, they don’t serve good food.”
Emma fallowed her in to a huge, high ceiling room with a large table in the center.
“Aunt Mallory!” Emma said running up to her and hugging her, “I missed you!”
“Yes, yes I know a year us just too long.” Her aunt said.
“I tried to get my mom and dad to let me come for Christmas, but they said I couldn’t because they wanted to have Christmas with me, also because of school.”
“Well, I can understand that,” She said, “Schooling is extremely important.”
The cooks came in with their meals set them down in front of them.
“Mmm...” Emma said taking a bite of a steak, “Delicious!”
“Emma!” Mallory said sternly, “Eat right! Little bites, and chew with your mouth closed!”
Emma swallowed and cut her meat into tiny bites.
“It seems you need to learn some manners,” she said, “I run a young lady’s boarding school here.”
She took a sip from her drink and continued, “How would you like to join?”
“OK,” Emma replied.
“Well that’s settled you’ll sleep in a dormitory and go to classes with other young ladies.”

After dinner, Aunt Mallory took Emma to her dorm.
“Here we are,” She said, “comfy water bed, a closet with all the outfits you’ll need, a dresser, and a desk with a diary.”
“What’s the diary for?”
“Well to write in, of course!” she said, “And you’ll need it for one of your classes.”
“Oh,”
“Now have a good night sleep and you’ll start your classes in the morning.”
Emma walked over to her thick, red diary as her aunt left, picked up a fancy pen and started writing on the first page:

Dear diary,
I can’t believe my luck!
I love going to school and on my second summer break with my rich Aunt Mallory I get to go to her lady’s school!
I only know one of my classes: Diary writing class. How cool!
- Emma

Chapter 2

Emma woke up just as Molly came in.
“You finally woke up I see,” she said enthusiastically, “I’ve got you some hot breakfast!”
“Oh, yum!” Emma said, “I love eggs and bacon!”
“Good!” Molly said, “Meet me at the feast hall after you’re finished eating and dressing.”
“OK,”
When Emma was finished she went up to the feast hall and found Molly knitting..
“There you are, come on your almost late!” Molly said.
Emma fallowed her down a hall and to a class room door.
“Here you are, be good!”
“I’ll try,”
She walked in and took a seat.
“Welcome, ladies!” Said a woman, “My name is Mrs. McKay, I’ll be teaching diary writing class.
“If you look in your desk you’ll find a paper with all the activities on it.”
She lifted up a paper to show them.
“Fill in the dots on what you want to do; you can do all of them or not, but you can’t do less them four. Hand them in when you’re done.”
Emma looked at her paper filled in hers:

*Knitting – Miss Kelly
*Tea – Mrs. Green
*Diary writing – Mrs. McKay
Cooking – Miss Lily
Sewing – Mrs. Apple
*Penmanship/writing – Mrs. Smith
*Poetry – Madam Rose
Crochet – Mrs. Bloom

After they handed theirs in Mrs. McKay said, “Everyone in diary writing class stay the rest of you go with Mrs. Watkins.”
About five s left with Molly who was watching at the door.
“Okay, class.” Mrs. McKay said cheerfully. “Pull out your Diaries and tell me how many sentences you have written so far since you got them yesterday.”
“I have written ten sentences.” Said a named Janet Durance.
“Me too,” said another named Ruby Potts.
“We have written twelve!” Said the Finn twins, Gilda and Gracie.
“I’ve written seven.” Said a named Brooklyn Silvers.
“Eight,” Said a pretty named Kate Watkins.
“Eleven,” Hannah Puckett said.
“Er….four.” Emma said nervously.
Kate, Hannah, and Janet burst out laughing.
“Okay, quiet down.” Mrs. McKay said and Emma turned red. “Now I want you to write your dream you had last night,”
Everyone started writing.
Emma noted down:

I can’t remember my dreams so I am going to make up one.
I was speeding fast on my horse, Star, jumping over obstacles and fences with the wind in my hair, I-

“I said dreams, not !” Someone said behind Emma.
Mrs. McKay was reading over her shoulder.
“But I can never remember my dreams!” Emma replied.
“You will do what I say and do it with out complaining!”
“But I –,”
“Class dismissed,” Said the teacher.
Everyone gathered up there books to leave.
“Don’t forget your homework for tomorrow, s!” Mrs. McKay “Write about you favorite class and you have to read it the class!”
“Yes ma’am,” Emma said dully and fallowed the rest out.

Emma’s next class was Penmanship.
“Please sit down, class.” Said Mrs. Smith,
“OK,” Mrs. Smith said after everyone was seated; she pulled out ten books. “I have a special assignment for you s.”
She put a book on each ’s desk.
“This is an empty book with a blank cover,” She said as she laid the last book down, “You will be writing a story in it and they will be sent to an editor.
The two s who write the best story get theirs published.”
So you have one week to make up an idea and write a short story.”

“Awesome!” Emma said out loud to herself after class.
“Yeah, way!” said a voice behind her.
Emma dropped her books as she spun around to find Brooklyn Silvers fallowing her.
“Oh! Hi!” Emma said, blushing.
“Sorry,” Brooklyn apologized, helping her pick up her books.
“It’s OK.” Emma said still blushing.
“Are you going to Tea class?” Brooklyn asked.
“Er….yeah.”
“So am I!” Brooklyn said, “Come on, let’s not be late!”
They left hurriedly.

At the end of the day Emma and Brooklyn had become friends.
She told her that she took knitting, Diary writing, Sewing, Tea, And Penmanship/writing.
But Brooklyn didn’t go to Poetry.
“Velcome, class,” said Madam Rose, Emma’s Poetry teacher, “Please open up your notebooks and vrite a poem about the sky; take your time, it is due tomorrow.”
Everyone did as they were told and started writing.
“Boy, with all this writing I wonder why we even have Penmanship.” Emma heard Hannah Puckett say, the seat in front of her.
“I know, I wish I could’ve gone to summer camp.” Janet Durance said in a snobbish tone.
“I really like it here,” Emma said.
“Nobody asked you, Freckle face!” Janet snapped.
“Yeah, well I was trying to be nice, Janet Dim-witted!” Emma snapped back.
Janet glared at Emma.
“Well at least I don’t have a stupid name like you, Emma Meathead!”
Emma blushed with anger and embarrassment.
She laughed, “Or should I say Blush-face!”
A bell rang; class was over as Emma stuffed her book in her bag and stormed off.

Her next class was knitting, which was a relief to Emma because it was the only class with out Janet.
“Hay, Brooklyn!” Emma called across the hall, “Wait up!”
She ran up to Brooklyn, breathless.
“Poetry was terrible! Janet is so mean to me!”
“Yes,” Brooklyn said, “She is, but I just ignore her and she leaves me alone.”
Emma then told her what she said as they walked to Knitting class.
“Yeah, I know what you mean,” Brooklyn said, “She called me Hair-bush because of my bushy hair.”
Brooklyn had brown bushy hair, blue eyes, and a few freckles on her face.
They entered the class room and sat down at a round table with two chairs.
“Hello, everyone,” Miss Kelly said, “Today we will be starting a new project.”
Their previous project had been little doll clothes.
“We will be knitting blankets!” Miss Kelly then pulled out a big bag full of yarn. “The person at your table is you partner,” Miss Kelly went on, “And you will help each other knit a blanket, colors of you choice, and then it will be submitted in a kit and crochet contest!”
Emma raised her hand. “Who’s doing the crocheting?”
“Mrs. Bloom’s class.” Miss Kelly said.
Brooklyn leaned over to Emma. “I heard Janet is in Mrs. Bloom’s class.” She whispered.
“So it is a competition?” Emma asked Miss Kelly.
“Why, yes,” Miss Kelly said, “So we need to do our best!
“Now pick two colors everyone and let’s get started!”
Brooklyn picked blue and Emma picked orange.
“Now, the contest in two weeks,” Miss Kelly said sitting at her table, “So knit fast, but carefully!”

Chapter 3

At dinner time they went to eat in the Feast Hall, and then they went back to their dormitories.
“Good night, Brooklyn!” Emma called down to her.
“Night,” Brooklyn said closing her door.
Emma sat down and opened her bedside table drawer and pulled out her diary to finish her home work just as a small piece of paper fell to the floor.
She picked it up and read it:

Secret library

Then it had a map of the huge house underneath it.
She saw a room was circled that said library on it.
“Wow, A secret library,” Emma said in wonder.
Then, still in her pajamas, she put on her slippers, took the map, and left.
Walking down the dark halls trying to read the map was hard.
Then she came to a stop.
She was standing right in front of it! But she didn’t see any thing.
“Maybe it’s hidden.” She wondered.
She searched the walls.
Then she saw a door knob hidden behind a vase!
Her heart beating fast, she moved the table a little and opened the door.
She walked into the small library that had with several shelves, each with a s name on it and above each row was a last name.
Then she saw Mandela on a row; and she saw shelves of books with these names, Jenna, Rose, Mallory, Emma.
Her name was there!
Walking over to her shelf she picked up a book, it was an empty diary!
And the others were filled diaries too.
She carefully took a diary from her aunt’s shelf and read the first entry:

Dear diary,
I have been at my Aunt Rose’s house for a while now.
And this is my first year as her student! She runs a Young Lady’s Boarding School here for rich s.
I was nervous at first but after a while I got the hang of things, I am taking Knitting, sewing, Tea, Poetry, and of course, Diary writing.
I met this really nice named Savannah; she is so pretty and smart.
Got to go to bed now, – Mallory

“Wow she went to the classes too?” Emma set it back on the shelf.
She looked at the others too, they were her great Aunts!
Jenna was her great, great Aunt, and Rose was her great Aunt!
And it all started out with Jenna who took her niece, Rose, to the school she made, and she picked seven friends and let their families come to the Young Lady’s Boarding School for free!
And Jenna made a library out of her diaries and the other families’ diaries!
Emma read all about Jenna and slowly her eyelids drooped.
And she fell asleep.

Emma woke up, really early in the morning, by rain and thunder outside.
“Oh, no!” She thought, “I better get back to my dorm!”
Quietly as she could she snuck back to her dormitory.
It was 4:47 A.M.
Then feeling tired again, she went to sleep in her bed.

Dear diary,
You won’t believe this!
I found a map of my aunt’s house and I found that she has a secret library!
It is full of diaries from all the s that came to Young Lady’s Boarding School!
I am probably going to read about Aunt Mallory every night.
I already read one entry; I also fell asleep on my great, great Aunt Jenna’s diary, luckily I didn’t sleep for the whole morning.
- Emma

Chapter 4

“Get up!”
Emma groaned.
“I said get up!”
Mrs. Watkins pulled open the drapes.
“You need to get up and eat!” She said pulling off Emma’s covers. “Class start in thirty minutes!”
Emma yawned, getting out of bed. “But it’s too early.”
“Eight-o-clock is not early, Emily!” Mrs. Watkins said and then she set a tray of food on her desk. “Eat quickly if you don’t want to be late!”
And she left without another word.
Emma was late.
“I won’t tolerate tardiness!” Mrs. McKay said sternly. “Sit down!”
Emma did what she was told and as she passed Janet’s desk, Janet Whispered, “You’re late, Blush-face!”
Emma ignored her.
“Does everyone have all there homework?” She asked.
“Yes.” Everyone said in unison.
“Good,” Mrs. McKay said, “Why don’t you go first, Janet?”
Janet walked to the front of the class with a pink diary and opened it.
“My favorite class is Diary writing class because it has the best teacher.”
Then she smiled and Mrs. McKay clapped enthusiastically, “An A plus!” She said.
Then Janet sat back in her chair.
Next up was Ruby Potts, “My favorite class is sewing because I get to make cool things out of cloth.”
“Way too short!” Mrs. McKay said, “C minus.”
Ruby shuffled back to her seat.
Emma looked over at Brooklyn who had the same uncertain face.
Emma was called up next.
“I think penmanship and writing class is my favorite class because I get to improve my handwriting and I get to write stories, which it one of my favorite hobbies.”
“D plus,” She said simply.
“What?” Emma thought, “No fair!”
She saw Janet smiling curtly.
After everyone had their turn and Mrs. McKay had said her criticism, the bell rang and everyone put their stuff away for their next class.
Emma, who was still fuming for the marks she got, (Brooklyn got a C plus) carelessly stuffed her books in her bag walked off to penmanship/writing class.
“Good morning class!” Mrs. Smith said cheerfully, “I hope you all have an idea for your story because I need to send them the day after tomorrow.”
Emma heard Janet groan.
“And I am proud to say that all of you have excellent handwriting, too!” She went on, “So this class is officially a writing class!”
So let’s get to it, sit quietly and let the words flow….”
Emma wrote about , named Avery, who had a magic notebook, anything she drew or wrote came true and it never runs out of paper.
At the end of class she said we will finish them tomorrow.

In Poetry after Tea, Emma had handed in her poem and they were working on a Haiku.
Emma reached in to get her diary.
It wasn’t there.
“That’s weird,” Emma thought, “Were did I put it?”
It wasn’t in her bag or desk so she got her notebook out instead.
“Maybe I left it in my dormitory.” She tried to recall leaving it. “Oh, well.”
But Emma couldn’t concentrate on her Haiku; her mind was wondering where it was.
In knitting, she told Brooklyn.
“Maybe you left it in Diary writing class.” She said.
“I guess I’ll see tomorrow.” Emma said.

The next morning in Diary writing class, Emma found it in her desk.
She looked over at Brooklyn and gave her the up, who gave Emma the ‘I-told-you-so’ look while smiling.
“Today you are going to read the class an entry your diary.” Mrs. McKay said. “Who wants so go first?”
Janet raised her hand and Mrs. McKay called on her.
“May I go first?” She asked in her icy sweet voice.
“Yes, of course,”
Janet walked to the front of the room with her pink diary, opened it and started reading.
“Dear diary,
I woke up one morning, got dressed in my expensive dress, and ate breakfast.
Then I went to my favorite class, Diary writing class, with my favorite teacher, Mrs. McKay.
She gave us the best assignment, to write about our favorite class, and I did.
And I got an A plus!
Then we went to the most boring class, penmanship and writing, with the worst teacher.
It is such a waste of time and it ruins my nails!
After going to the rest of my classes I saw the dumbest student in the school, her initials are E.M.”
Janet giggled and went on.
“Then I went to bed. –Janet”
“All right,” Mrs. McKay said, “Whose next?”
Brooklyn went next.
“Today I woke up to a warm breakfast, and went to my classes, my favorite class is writing class and when Miss Smith announced that we would be writing a short story I was vary excided!
I couldn’t wait to get started, and I worked hard to make my grammar perfect.
More later-Brooklyn Silvers.”
She walked back to her chair and sat down, Emma smiled at her.
Then Hannah, Kate, Ruby, Gilda and Grace went.
Emma was last.
She read out her vary first entry:
“Dear diary,
I can’t believe my luck!
I love going to school and on my second summer break with my rich Aunt Mallory I get to go to her lady’s school!
I only know one of my classes: Diary writing class. How cool!
- Emma
Emma tried to swallow the lump in her throat, this was the same entry she had said only four sentences before.
I am glad I only read my first entry, she thought, because then everyone might find out about the library.
After class Mrs. McKay called to Emma to stay for a bit.
“I found your diary left in your desk, you know.” She said
Emma gulped.
“And I ally read it.”
Emma exploded. “YOU WHAT?!”
“Don’t you yell at me!” Mrs. McKay said sternly, “I saw something about a secret library.”
Emma was horrified.
“And I already told you to stop writing !” She finished with a huff. “Off to your other classed now!”
Emma left and as soon as she got out the door she sighed.
“She only thought it was a fantasy.” She thought out loud, “What a relief!”

It was the end of writing class and Miss Smith gathered up everyone’s stories.
“I will receive them next week.” She said, “And I am going to visit my family for a week so you all will have extra Diary writing class this week.”
Emma looked at Brooklyn, who was frowning.
Then she caught a glance from Janet, she was smiling like she won the .

That night Emma decided to visit the library.
It was getting chilly in the days so the nights were cold.
Creeping down the hall she soundlessly made her way to the door.
Opening the door; someone was already there!
It was Brooklyn.
“What are you doing here?” Emma asked.
Brooklyn jumped, “Wha-? Oh, I am reading!” She was holding one of her family’s diaries.
“Who are you reading about?” Emma asked.
“My Aunt Kate, she came to this school before me.” Brooklyn said.
“Do you have your own shelf?” Emma asked.
“Yes,” Brooklyn said, “How many times have you been here?”
“Well this would be my second time.” Emma said.
“My first time.”
“How did you find it?” Emma asked picking up Mallory’s diary off the shelf.
Brooklyn smiled, “I fallowed you when you found the map.”
“But how did you know I had the map?”
“I was going to the bathroom, next to your room, and your door was open, when I passed your door I heard you say ‘Wow, a secret library!’ and tonight is the first night I have been here.” Brooklyn said, “So shall we read?”
“Sure,” Emma said, so they sat down on the floor and read.

Dear diary,
I am having so much fun here!
Savannah and I went exploring at night, you will never guess what we found!
A secret library!
It’s amazing! I even have my own shelf!
I am reading about my Aunt Rose when she went to this school.
And Savannah is reading about her Aunt Jennifer.
I can’t wait till I get to fill up my shelf.
– Mallory

After reading a while they sleepily walked back to their dormitories.

Dear diary,
I went to the library again and guess who was there?
Brooklyn was!
So we read for a while and now I am really tired.
- Emma
PS My diary writing teacher, Mrs. McKay is mean!

Chapter 5

It was raining on a Saturday day morning when Emma woke up.
Great, Emma thought, now I can visit the library!
She tipped toed to Brooklyn’s dorm.
“Wake up!” She whispered, “Let’s go to the library!”
Sleepily Brooklyn got up and put on her slippers.
“What time is it?” She mumbled.
“Shh! It is 7:49.” Emma answered.
They both snuck down the hall and past the Feast Hall and down another corridor till they came to the secret door.
And they sat down to read again.

Dear diary,
Today In Penmanship class the teacher threw a fit because someone said I had better handwriting then her, As a result of me getting extra homework, a 200 word essay.
So my hand is vary tired now so I am going to stop writing –Mallory

And she read on…

Dear diary,
I haven’t written in her for a while because I lost my diary, but then I found it under my bed.
I also found a puppy outside yesterday after it had rained and I decided to name her Puddles because I found her in a puddle.
She chewed up my diary’s corner. Ew dog spit.
Anyway I have to take Puddles for a walk now –Mallory

Dear diary,
It has been two weeks since I have got here.
I have already trained Puddles to sit, stay, and roll over.
She is SO cute! I was eating a ham sandwich and she put her head in my lap and begged.
I knew I shouldn’t but who could resist such a cute face?
So I gave her some ham, and she did a trick for me!
Sooooo cute! –Malloy

Dear diary,
I gave puddles a bath today.
He loves it!
But Ashley, a snobbish student, said it was so unladylike to wash the dog that I should be thrown out of the school! And now she calls me ‘washerwoman’!
She is just jealous that I have a cute puppy and she doesn’t.
So ha, ha on her! –Mallory

“I think we better go,” Brooklyn said, “It is already nine.”
Emma stopped reading and put it back on the shelf, “Yeah, I’m starved”
Brooklyn got out first then looked around.
“Someone’s coming!” Brooklyn hissed.
It was Janet.
“So I was like ‘Loser!’ and she just scowled and her stupid friend was there too, I thought I just might die if I had hair like that!” Janet was talking on her cell phone.
“Anyway, I call you later, Doofus number two is here.”
She hung up, “What are you doing here?” she asked Brooklyn in her snooty voice.
“Oh, nothing,” Brooklyn said, thinking of something to annoy Janet, “Just thinking of when I should tell Emma’s aunt about your cell phone.”
Cell phones weren’t allowed in the school.
Janet turned pale a bit. “You wouldn’t dare, you Bushy-haired cave-women!”
“Oh, yes I would!” Brooklyn said getting heated, “I think I’ll do it right now!”
Janet frowned, “Humph!” She spun around and walked off.
Brooklyn sighed with relief, “OK, its all clear!” She whispered.
Emma came out with a sigh, “That was close,” she said.
“Too close.” Brooklyn agreed.
Then they both collapsed into a fit of giggles.
“You should have seen Janet’s face when I said I was going to tell your aunt!” Brooklyn said between laughs, then she imitated Janet and they collapsed again.
“OK…OK, that’s enough.” Emma said giggling, “I am starved.”
They made their way to the Feast Hall, which was buzzing with talking and laughing.

After breakfast they headed outside to the swimming pool.
They sat on the edge of the pool, feet in the cool water, with their diaries.
“What should I write today?” Emma said pretending to not know, “Oh, I know! I could write about Janet and her pale face!”
They burst out laughing again.
“Really?” Brooklyn said.
“Yes!” Emma said, and she wrote it down.

Dear diary,
Today Brooklyn and I went to the library.
It was fun!
But you’ll never guess who almost found us.
Janet!
But she didn’t suspect a thing!
From what Brooklyn said she turned pale as the moon!
We laughed so hard, I might have broken a rib!
-Emma

Brooklyn giggled reading over her shoulder, “As the moon?”
Emma giggled, “Imagine what her face would look like if she read this!”
“Read what?!” a voice demanded.
It was Janet.
“Nothing!” The s in unison.
Janet scowled and marched off.
“Come on,” Emma said, “Before she tells on us.”
And they left to go work on their knitting.

On Monday, They were in Diary writing class at the end of their second hour and Emma’s hand ached.
She quickly scribbled a short note:

Mrs. McKay is boring me.

And she threw it to Brooklyn, in the desk in front of her.
A minute later, when Mrs. McKay’s back was turned, Brooklyn dropped a note on her desk, it read:

I know! She has a bad temper too

Emma giggled but covered it up with a cough.
Brooklyn looked over her shoulder, their eyes met, then they quickly turned away trying to smother a laugh.
Emma had to bite her tongue to keep from laughing.
“Now,” Mrs. McKay said, “It is the end of class so make sure you write everyday. We expect you to fill up several diaries.”
Emma caught Brooklyn’s eye, they smiled.

Out in the hall they made their way to the Feast Hall for lunch.
“I bet my Aunt told her to say that.” Emma said, “She doesn’t even know that there is a real library here!”
“Shh!” Brooklyn hissed, “Or Janet will hear you!”
Emma looked around to see Janet looking a bit interested.
“Did she hear us?” Emma asked Brooklyn in a whisper.
“I don’t know, but we better be more careful.”

In tea they were having fun making up flavors.
“I shall call this one Maple of spring.” Emma said adding flower pedals to her maple tea. “And I will call this Mint of the Pickle.” Brooklyn said putting pickle juice in some mint tea.
“That actually sounds good!” Emma said.
“Yeah, maybe for pickle lovers!” Brooklyn joked.
“OK then, I’ll try it.” Emma said.
“No way!” Brooklyn gasped.
“Sure!” Emma replied then took a gulp.
“How does it taste?” Brooklyn asked.
“Hmmm….Like Mint and-” She scrunched up her face, “-Sour pickles!”
Brooklyn burst out laughing.
“Quiet down.” Mrs. Green said, “Let the other students work too.”

At the end Poetry class Madam Rose was talking about words and rhyming. “Kite rhymes vith flight and night.”
“Ve must Vrite a poem that rhymes!” Emma whispered to Brooklyn which made her giggle.
They had to write a poem about something then rhyme the word with several other words.
“How’s this,” Brooklyn said, “Listen to the rain, as it falls down on my windowpane.”
“That sounds cool,” Emma replied, “How about this: I pull with all my might, trying to get my kite to take flight.”
“Pretty good,” She answered.
The bell rang and Emma and Brooklyn left to go to Knitting class.

Emma and Brooklyn were sitting at a round table, knitting.
They were almost finished with their blanket.
It was a striped orange and blue blanket with a checkered boarder.
“Do you think we should add lace?” Brooklyn asked.
“No,” Emma said, “It won’t look good like that.”
They knitted in silence for a while.
“I can’t wait till the competition!” Emma said, breaking the silence, “I bet Janet is horrible at crotchet.”
“Either that or they are making sweaters.” Brooklyn said.
“No….underwear!” Emma said
They laughed quietly, not wanting to get in trouble for that again.

Chapter 6

The night of the next day Emma and Brooklyn decided to visit the library again.
They crept down the dormitory hall, trying not to make a sound.
“Ouch!” Brooklyn hissed as Emma stepped on her toe.
“Sorry, I didn’t see you foot there, it is so dark in here.” Emma whispered.
Then when they arrived at the door, Emma quickly opened the door and they entered.
“Hay,” Emma said. “Let’s look at the others.”
“OK,” Brooklyn said and they headed for the Durance shelves.
“It’s Janet’s relatives!” Brooklyn said amazed.
“Let’s read about her aunt!” Emma said picking up a book from Vanessa’s shelf.
“Dear diary,” Emma read out loud, “Today is my first day in school and I already found a friend, her name is Mallory Mandela.” Emma gasped “My aunt was friends with her aunt?”
Brooklyn shook her head, “She defiantly doesn’t get her “friendliness” from her aunt.”
Emma read on: “She is really nice; she has been helping me with my kitting, which is hard for me.
We are partners and we just started making blankets, I can’t wait to see what it looks like after we are all done.
My Diary Writing teacher is really nice, too.
Got to go now-Vanessa
“Wow,” Emma said, “That is weird.”
“I know,” Said a familiar voice.
They both spun around.
It was Janet.
“I wonder why my aunt would be friends with your aunt, too.”
“What are you doing here?” Emma said.
Janet giggled, “You look surprised.”
Brooklyn and Emma gaped.
“You-you heard us?” Brooklyn asked.
“Yes,” Janet replied with a smirk, “I heard you in the hall when Emma stepped on your toe.”
She was twirling a piece of hair, sneering.
“I fallowed you here.”
“Why?” Emma demanded “Why didn’t you mind your own business!”
“You’re the one who is reading my aunt’s diary!”
Emma frowned, “You won’t tell?”
“Maybe I will, and maybe I won’t.” She smiled a slimy smile.
She left leaving the door open.
Brooklyn closed it, “What will we do?”
“I don’t know.”

The next day is class Janet kept a smirk on her face through it all.
I hope she didn’t tell, Emma thought.
After school was over, Mrs. McKay asked Emma and Brooklyn to stay after class.
“I have to go now; your aunt will meet you here.”
Emma gulped.
After a few minutes of waiting Aunt Mallory entered the room.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” Emma wailed, “I didn’t know!”
Brooklyn just sat there biting her lip.
“It’s quite alright.” Aunt Mallory said, “I am vary glad you found out, I just wish you told me sooner.”
Emma and Brooklyn were speechless.
Aunt Mallory chuckled, “Yes I am happy you found the hidden library.”
She sat down, “Let me explain,”
“About four years ago, I had been going to that library to read about my Aunt and great Aunt and all the others, when I needed to open up for school again.”
“I put away my map in one of the dorms and forgot which one I put it in.”
“It was in my dorm.” Said Emma
“Was it? Ah…yes I remember now.”
“Well for two years I looked and looked but couldn’t find it! Finally I just gave up and then when it was time for you to come, your mom signed you up and you came.”
“But I thought you just wanted me to do it because I had bad manners.”
Her Aunt laughed a soft laugh, “No, dear,”
“You joined because it’s tradition! Now let me finish. I had the walls in the staircase room redone with wallpaper four months before, and I guess the door got covered.”
“And I saw a lump and found the hidden library!” Emma finished.
“So are we in trouble?” Asked Brooklyn
“Goodness, no!” She exclaimed, “I am vary proud of you both.”
“So what’s going to happen to the library?” asked Emma.
“I am going to reopen it so that all you classmates can use it!” Aunt Mallory replied.
The s smiled.
“So let’s gather the school and tare down that wallpaper!”

“Why do I have to do this gross work?” Janet complained out loud, than a blob of paint fell on her head, “HAY!!” She shrieked.
“Oops.” Brooklyn said sarcastically, who was up on a latter above Janet.
Emma laughed.
School was almost over and for their last week all the students were painting the staircase room.
Emma was glad school was over but would miss her friends, she had already filled up one of her diaries, which was sitting on her vary own shelf.
“You know,” Aunt Mallory said, standing next to Emma, “I have decided to open up a summer camp for next year if you like to come.”
“You mean my mom hasn’t already signed me up?” Emma said sarcastically.
Aunt Mallory laughed, “No, not yet.”
“I would love to, Aunt Mallory!” Emma said.
“I knew you would,” She said and put her arm on Emma’s shoulder’s;
“By the way, you can call me Mallory if you’d like.”
“OK, Mallory.” Emma said.

Great story! By the way, there's already a book called Emma, not that you should change the title, though.
